Palais Moulay Said & SPA Marrakech, 60 Rue Riad Zitoun el Kdim, Marrakesh 40000, Morocco

At the heart of Marrakech, the Medina occupies what was once the city’s fortified citadel; today, the whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wandering along these winding streets, you’ll spot centuries-old mosques and stunning palaces tucked between bustling souks touting spices and textiles. Be sure to check out the Saadian Tombs, a lavish 17th century tomb complex with ornate carvings and beautiful zellij tiling. The riad gardens, intricate mosaic floors and colourful Grand Courtyard of Bahia Palace are also worth a visit.

All visitors to Marrakech must make a stop at Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main market square. Music fills the air as tourists and locals gather at the vibrant centre of the city; this is the place to go for local delicacies, street performers and souvenirs. Rising above the square is the majestic minaret of Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in the city. Although non-Muslims can’t go inside, be sure to grab a picture from below. As night falls, get a drink or a bite to eat from one of the rooftop bars that look down over the square to get a bird’s-eye view of the action.
