The medieval city of Kilkenny is the perfect place to take a step back in time and discover the county’s history. The iconic castle is the best place to start; less than ten minutes from the hotel, this 12th-century fortress also boasts 50 acres of rolling parkland, a tearoom, and a rose garden. Next, take a wander down the Medieval Mile, which stretches from the castle to St. Canice’s Cathedral and takes in lots of historic sites along the way, including a Tudor merchant’s house and a medieval inn that once belonged to a supposed witch. Of course, there are plenty of other ways to explore the city - do some shopping in the flurry of independent boutiques, discover one of the local walking trails or even take a boat trip down the River Nore.

If it’s golfing you’ve got in mind, Kilkenny is the place to be. Gowran Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course less than a 20-minute drive from the hotel, and equally close is Castlecomer Golf Club, which is surrounded by a 200-year old forest. Practically on your doorstep at just a five-minute drive away, Kilkenny Golf Club offers a championship standard, par-71 golf course set across 100 acres.
